Jerusalem, Ramallah, and Bethlehem

Jeff Halper (right) of the Israeli Committee Against Home Demolitions gave his analysis of the current situation and recent Israeli election results.

Delegates met and then ate lunch with six Palestinian students from Birzeit University near Ramallah. The students spoke of their experiences living and studying under occupation.

The Wall surrounding Bethlehem. This gate is the only entrance for cars going into and out of Jerusalem. Becuase so few Palestinians have permits to travel this checkpoint had only a few people passing through it while delegates were there.

Graffitti on the Wall in Bethlehem. This had been painted on the inside (the Palestinian side) of the Wall.

Delegates at the weekly Women in Black vigil in West Jerusalem. Women in Black have been holding vigils in Jerusalem to protest the occupation for the last 18 years.

Gila Svirsky of the Coalition of Women for Peace met the delegates and discussed the different organizations working for peace in Israel. She also talked about the recent Israeli elections.
