East Jerusalem: Religious Sites and Political Realities

A funeral at the Jewish cemetery on the Mount of Olives

Delegates walking through the streets of the Old City

The entrance to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre

During the tour with the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions (ICAHD), the delegates visit the wall separating Abu Dis and Azziriya (Bethany). This wall, a five-minute drive from the Mount of Olives, divides two Palestinian neighborhoods of Jerusalem.

Jimmy from ICAHD shows the delegates the ruins of a demolished Palestinian house.

With manicured lawns, arranged flower beds, and clean streets, the Israeli settlement of Ma'ale Adumim is another world--but just a ten-minute drive (for those who can make it through a checkpoint) from the wall in Abu Dis pictured above.
