Bil'in: Active Nonviolence

Yolande, a delegate, stands in front of a gate to the wall/fence route in Bil'in.

In rural areas like Bil'in, the wall route is mostly a series of fences, barbed wire, electric sensors, access roads, and sand patches (for footprints). This construction actually seizes a much wider swath of Palestinian land than the concrete form of the wall in urban areas.

Here the delgegates are standing between the inner and outer fences, waiting to be permitted to cross through a gate.

Rateb talks to the Israeli border guards so the delegation can cross through the fence.

This is the settlement of Mattiayahu East--being built on Bil'in village lands. Becuase of a court victory, the construction of this settlement has been frozen, for now.

The small structure, or outpost, that Palestinian, Israeli, and international activists built on the East, or Israeli, side of the fence. This outpost is on Bil'in village land that was threatened to be lost outright becuase the wall cut it off from the center of the village.

Delegates met two Israeli activists in Bil'in to protest the wall route.
